Pipe organ console with stop knobs — tuning and maintenance service

Tuning & Maintenance

A pipe organ is a living instrument — its tuning shifts with the seasons, the temperature and the humidity of the building it inhabits. Regular professional servicing keeps your organ sounding its best and prevents small problems from becoming costly ones.

Derek provides tuning and maintenance visits to churches and cathedrals throughout Ireland, scheduling each visit to suit the needs of the instrument and the liturgical calendar.

  • Annual tuning and inspection for parish organs
  • Bi-annual servicing for larger instruments
  • Monthly tuning for cathedral organs
  • Mechanical checks and minor repairs
  • Advice on long-term care and upkeep

Restoration & Rebuilds

Many of Ireland's church organs are historic instruments of considerable age and value — instruments that, with the right care, can be brought back to full voice. Derek undertakes full restorations and rebuilds of pipe organs across the country, approaching each project with the knowledge and patience the work demands.

A restoration by Derek Verso & Company respects the original character of the instrument while ensuring it is fully functional and reliably maintained for years to come.

  • Full pipe organ restoration and rebuild
  • Replacement of worn mechanical and electrical components
  • Pipe revoicing and tonal refinishing
  • Modernisation of action and console systems
  • Preservation of original casework and historic material

New Organ Builds

The design and construction of a new pipe organ is one of the most significant undertakings a church can commission. Derek works closely with clergy, architects and music directors to design an instrument perfectly suited to the space — acoustically, aesthetically and practically.

Each new organ is built to the highest standard of craftsmanship, combining traditional organ building methods with modern materials and technology where appropriate.

  • Acoustic and architectural assessment of the space
  • Custom instrument design and specification
  • Full construction, installation and voicing
  • Casework design in consultation with the church
  • Ongoing maintenance support after installation

Conservation of Heritage Instruments

Ireland's older organs represent an irreplaceable part of the country's musical and ecclesiastical heritage. The conservation of these instruments requires a specialist approach — one that prioritises the preservation of historic material and the original tonal character of the organ.

Derek carries out conservation work on vintage and heritage instruments throughout Ireland, working sensitively to stabilise, preserve and, where appropriate, carefully restore instruments of historical significance.

  • Condition assessment and detailed reporting
  • Stabilisation of historic pipework and mechanisms
  • Sympathetic restoration respecting original voicing
  • Documentation and provenance research
  • Liaison with heritage bodies and conservation specialists
